Sign Language I - Part A LANGLL359<br />

Designed to provide you with knowledge of the<br />

ear, various levels of hearing loss and practical<br />

use of Sign Language. Emphasis is placed<br />

on American Sign Language as a component<br />

of Total Communication. Practice receptive<br />

and expressive skills, body language, facial<br />

expression and classifiers. Basic issues are<br />

covered such as deaf and hard of hearing<br />

If you think that you are eligible for placement<br />

into a higher level, you should register for the<br />

appropriate challenge exam. You may challenge<br />

up to 75% of the required credits.<br />

For beginners, no placement test is required;<br />

register directly in La Pratique 1.<br />

Written test (FR003, FR004, FR005, FR006)<br />

You may obtain up to 4 credits with these tests<br />

which measure competence in grammar.<br />

Oral test (FS032, FS033)<br />

You may obtain up to 2 credits with these tests<br />

which measure conversational competence.<br />

Language Interpreter<br />

Training Program<br />

Obtain the training you need to become a<br />

spoken language interpreter. There is a growing<br />

need for skilled interpreters within the legal,<br />

health care, and social service sectors. Benefit<br />

from a solid introduction to interpreting theory,<br />

with skills development practice in consecutive<br />

interpreting, sight translation and note taking,<br />

simultaneous interpreting, standards of<br />

practice, and more. The program will benefit<br />

individuals interested in a career in interpreting,<br />

and those already working as interpreters who<br />

wish to upgrade their skills and obtain a college<br />

credential.<br />
