Moonee Valley awash
with salmon & Pink
salmon and Pink were
the order of the day at
the 2011 cox Plate, as
Inglis graduates stole
the show
Inglis and the horses it sells are synonymous with Australia’s
weight-for-age championship, the Group One MVRC Tatts
W.S. Cox Plate, citing recent winners MALDIVIAN, FIELDS OF
oMAGH and the great MiGHT AND PoWeR.
Add to that distinguished list 2011 winner
PInKEr PInKEr.
The daughter of Reset from metropolitan winner Miss Marion
was purchased by winning trainer Greg Eurell from the draft of
Millford Thoroughbreds at the 2009 inglis Melbourne Premier
yearling Sale for $120,000.
“it was funny how things work out, we were at the inglis sales
and i ran into David and Carol Kirby and they had a couple of
horses there that they had picked out and wanted me to look
at, we had a look at her [Pinker Pinker] and she was the one we
wanted and fortunately we got her,” said Greg Eurell after the
historic win.
Earlier in the day Moonee Valley was doused in Salmon and Black
as the crowd cheered unbeaten champion BlACK CAViAR
to her 15th win from as many starts. The great mare is also a
graduate of inglis’ Melbourne Premier yearling Sale, having been
plucked from the Oaklands sale ring by trainer Peter Moody for
$210,000 in 2008.
Horses purchased at inglis’ Melbourne showcase have starred
all around the globe in recent times, with South African Horse
of the year iGuGu, four-time Hong Kong Champion Sprinter
SACReD KiNGDoM and european Champion Sprinter
STARSPANGLEDBANNER to name a few.
Choisir colt STARSPANGLEDBANNER was the winner of
the first $250,000 inglis Juvenile, a 1000m two-year-old event
restricted to Inglis Race Series entrants that has kicked off each
Cox Plate Day since 2008.
Renamed the Inglis Banner in recognition of its inaugural winner,
the 2011 running of the event unearthed another top juvenile by
Choisir, as DiAMoND eARTH held off all challengers to salute.
Diamond Earth was purchased by her trainer Anthony
Cummings from the inglis Sydney Classic yearling Sale in January
for just $60,000.
The Sydney Classic sale marks the start of Inglis’ busy yearling
sale series each year, and the sale is also the source of star threeyear-old
gelding MANAWANui, who added an easy win in the
Group Two Mitchelton Wines Vase to his resume on Cox Plate
Day.
Manawanui was plucked from Classic for just $45,000 by trainer
Ron Leemon.
,,
It is such a pleasure to see
Inglis’ clients be rewarded
with success on big days
such as the Cox Plate,
,,
said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
“All four inglis winners were all purchased by their respective
trainers as yearlings, and in a clear indication that anybody can
be involved and have success in this wonderful industry a 10%
share in one of them would have only cost you between
$4,500 and $21,000.”
