Activity Work plan
Meeting of IR Managers in May
A message was sent out the REPOS list
to gauge interest by IR managers. I had
14 positive replies from people indicating
they would attend such a meeting, and 2
requests from people who can’t attend
but would like to dial in remotely.
Current practices for collecting data
sets in IRs:
Many research libraries have built
institutional repositories in order to
manage the research output of their
community and are interested in
collecting datasets. However, there are
additional challenges to collecting and
managing data- including the complexity
of metadata, large size of datasets, etc.
This project will review existing practices
for collection data sets within IRs
internationally, assess the feasibility and
costs associated, and develop a set of
recommendations for libraries that are
interested in this practice. The proposed
project would be undertaken in
conjunction with the Data Management
Subcommittee.
COAR Annual Meeting and ongoing
contribution
User services for aggregated content
of IRs
The aggregate content contained in
digital repositories could be the starting
point for a number of value-added
services that enable the use and re-use
of materials in many contexts. This
project will further develop the concept
using international polar year as an
example, in order to assess its feasibility
