Library have developed curriculum for an introductory workshop on data management for librarians. The first workshop took place on November 10, 2009. Feedback from this workshop is being used to improve the curriculum for other workshop(s) that could be organized and sponsored by the Data Management Working Group. Current practices for collecting data sets in IRs. Many research libraries have built institutional repositories in order to manage the research output of their community and are interested in collecting datasets. However, there are additional challenges to collecting and managing data- including the complexity of metadata, large size of datasets, etc. This project will review existing practices for collection data sets within IRs internationally, assess the feasibility and costs associated, and develop a set of recommendations for libraries that are interested in this practice. The proposed project would be undertaken in conjunction with the Institutional Repositories Subcommittee.
