FIRE MANAGEMENT PLAN 2008<br />

<strong>Lassen</strong>-<strong>Modoc</strong> <strong>Unit</strong><br />

Surprise Valley-Lake City:<br />

Develop a community outreach <strong>and</strong> education program to alert Lake<br />

City residents about the danger <strong>of</strong> wildfire to the town.<br />

Develop projects to mitigate wild-fire risk including fuel breaks on<br />

adjacent public l<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> defensible space projects on private<br />

property.<br />

Design an evacuation plan. Ensure that current <strong>and</strong> new residents are<br />

provided with the evacuation plan. Facilitate the development <strong>of</strong> a<br />

strategic mutual-aid response plan<br />

specific to threats <strong>of</strong> wildfire to Lake City: including approach routes,<br />

identifying water resources, <strong>and</strong> defining tactical roles <strong>of</strong> mutual aid<br />

responding agencies, i.e., Cedarville <strong>Fire</strong> Department <strong>and</strong> Fort Bidwell<br />

resources.<br />

Surprise Valley-Eagleville/Emerson Creek:<br />

Ensure that water tanker re-filling st<strong>and</strong>pipes are along established<br />

roads <strong>and</strong> accessible year round.<br />

Construct <strong>and</strong> maintain a fuel break adjacent to residential areas on<br />

Emerson Creek.<br />

Likely:<br />

Provide assistance to l<strong>and</strong>owners in removing debris <strong>and</strong> dilapidated<br />

buildings that may carry wildfire into the community.<br />

Evaluate wildfire risk to properties along County Road # 60.<br />

Likely-Juniper Acres:<br />

Educate the residents as to the fire dangers.<br />

Promote <strong>and</strong> insist on a defensible space around residences.<br />

Clear a firebreak perimeter.<br />

Install a water line from the Pit River across Jess Valley Road to a<br />

st<strong>and</strong>pipe at the entrance to Juniper Acres.<br />

Likely-Pine Shadow Village:<br />

Establish a fuel Break on <strong>Modoc</strong> National Forest Service adjacent l<strong>and</strong>s<br />

within the WUI.<br />

Coordinate with <strong>Modoc</strong> National Forest on an area fire prevention plan.<br />

Assist with defensible space projects for senior <strong>and</strong> disabled citizens on<br />

private l<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Cal Pines:<br />

Establish a fuel break around the Hill <strong>Unit</strong>s subdivision.<br />

Encourage safety by requesting <strong>and</strong> assisting private l<strong>and</strong>owners to<br />

reduce fuel loads on their property including cleaning up slash piles<br />

from logging operations.<br />
