Cushman Square Cushman Square serves as a focus for retail and civic activity. It is an essential amenity that will attract downtown retail activity. Land Assembly The Cushman Square proposed site is located east of Cushman Street between 5th and 6th avenues. Assembly of the land required to implement Cushman Square includes a public parcel (the existing transit center) and nine private parcels under a single ownership that total 50,529 SF (see below right). The following page outlines the conceptual square design and action items needed to implement Cushman Square. Final design should consider a phasing option that maintains the transit station buildings, drop-off areas and circulation until a new transit center within the retail anchor area (or other location) is built. Cushman Square Fundamental Characteristics The square’s size, location and design are based on the fundamental characteristics found in successful public squares.
