Chena River Celebration
The Chena Riverfront Plan is a guiding framework
to maintain and enhance the Chena River as a world
class public amenity. In conjunction with the Chena
Riverfront Commission and Festival Fairbanks
numerous pedestrian and bike improvements along
with interpretive signage and look-outs have been
developed along the waterfront on both sides of the
river. The Chena River celebration includes additional
access, activity centers and historical interpretation
areas that build off of these built projects, including:

1.) The Festival Loop, an off-street pedestrian and
bike path that follows along both sides of the river
from the Centennial Bridge to a new pedestrian
and bike bridge at Cowles Street
2.) The Heritage Anchor sites that highlight
Fairbanks’ history and architectural heritage
3.) The Cultural Anchor at the Morris Thompson
Cultural and Visitors Center
4.) A Festival Lawn located in Griffin Park to include
programming for large, all-season assembly
for events such as the Open North American
Championship sled dog race
5.) Chena Outfitters located between the Barnette
and Cushman bridges that includes a restaurant
and facilities for the sale, repair and rental of
waterfront and recreational equipment
