In Figure 47, the areas near the hub have the higher stress, and these areas are needed to<br />
be seriously considered to make sure the propeller is strong enough. Stress on the<br />
propeller will ultimately cause deflections, which is also important when considering a<br />
propeller's acceptability. High deflection on a propeller will change the flow around the<br />
propeller and loads on it. Low deflection is desirable for a propeller design.<br />
CosmosWorks can output the displacements related to the stresses generated by the<br />
fluidlblade interaction. Deflections were briefly reviewed and seen to be minimal but the<br />
simulation values for stress and deflection should be studied in more detail in a further<br />
study. The analytical results should be validated through experimental work, which has<br />
been recommended in the conclusions of this thesis. Figure 48 displays the deflection of<br />
the AUV propeller.<br />
