Dance musical<br />

at the Attic<br />

Other Things and Company's production for all ages,<br />

called "Yellow Bus 'N Stuff," is continuing at the<br />

Attic Theater at 1 p.m. this Sunday.<br />

Other Things is a touring dance theater for<br />

children, which has performed in many area <strong>school</strong>s<br />

in the past two years.<br />

"Yellow Bus 'N Stuff" is the story of a day in the<br />

life of a child, told through music, mime and<br />

movement. This performance is part of the<br />

Performing Arts Festival sponsored by the Attic.<br />

Tickets are available at the door.<br />

Other Things will conduct summer performing arts<br />

camps in July. Members of the company will work<br />

with children in music, mime, dance and drama.<br />

Members of the company include Beth Taylor,<br />

Gary Ed Mach, Jill Johnson, Darien Matrus, Paul<br />

Johannes and director Carol Halsted.<br />

Downtown stages come alive for festival<br />

Colombia, will appear at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts<br />

in Washington before coming to Detroit to participate in Olympiad.<br />

A major international theater festival, drawing<br />

performing groups from at least a dozen countries,<br />

is part of the 1979 International Freedom Festival<br />

activities.<br />

Olympiad '79 will present virtually continuous<br />

performances noon-1 a.m. at the Hart Plaza amphitheaters<br />

and/or the Attic Theater, 525 E. Lafayette,<br />

in downtown Detroit.<br />

Theater companies from Brazil, Canada, Colombia,<br />

Czechoslovakia, Finland, Greece, Ireland,<br />

Japan, Portugal, Roumania, Scotland and possibly<br />

Poland will share the stage from this Saturday to<br />

July 8, with local companies. Also representing the<br />

United States will be the Howard University Theater<br />

Experience and the old Town Players from<br />

Vincennes, Ind.<br />

The Theater Guild of Livonia-Redford was to<br />

have been a participant in Olympiad after winning<br />

a local stage competition, but some of the performers<br />

are off in summer stock work. It was be impossible<br />

to get the group back together, according to<br />

Pat Secor of the guild.<br />

Hart Plaza performances, scheduled between<br />

noon-8 p.m., are free to the public, as are the open<br />

rehearsals which begin daily at 10 a.m. Admission<br />

is $2 to performances at the Attic Theater, which<br />

will be presented 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.<br />

HOSTED BY the Detroit Metro Theater Council<br />

of the Detroit Recreation Department, the festival<br />

is being held in conjunction with the Canadian National<br />

Multicultural Festival, which will bring performing<br />

groups from five provinces to the area.<br />

Olympiad '79 will focus on folk theater in honor<br />

of the International Year of the Child and stress<br />

folk material as an important aspect of child devel-<br />
