"Fat is no more a health barometer
than a dog's nose, and a 'pleasingly
plump' pet could be suffering from
malnutrition," say authorities at the
American Animal Hospital Association
(AAHA).
Obese or overweight pets have one
thing in common with overweight
humans — an improper diet. In recent
months the association has focused attention
on fat cats and pudgy budgies.
We have received some comments
concerning malnutrition in pets, so we
conducted a survey. Frankly, we
thought we would find that it was the
exotic or uncommon pets that are suffering
from malnutrition," said Dr.
Louis J. Rossoni, a spokesman of the
AAHA
"We were somewhat amazed to find
that 90 percent of the veterinarians felt
we should focus malnutrition warnings
on dogs, 87 percent on cats and 35 percent
on birds Very few mentioned

consideration for more than 80 percent
of the veterinarians responding to the
question, "What do you feel your clients
should know about cats?"

spot a weight problem without using

Cp car damaged
in night club fracas
A 17 year-old Inkster youth fcas arrested
Tuesday after the doors of a
Canton police car were damaged i{i the
Canton Center Stage parking lot^ >
Robert Andrew Smith pled not guilty
to malicious destruction of property in
35th District Court Tuesday afternoon
Smith remained in the Canton jail,
awaiting the payment of a $100 bond
He was expected to be transported to
Wayne County jail if the bond remained
unpaid. A pre-trial exam is scheduled
for July 2.
According to police reports, Smith
was told to leave the Center Stage, an
entertainment facility on Ford road
just east'of 1-275. Smith then allegedly
went to the parking lot and proceeded
to kick in the doors of the police car. /
Police said the damage to the car toi
taled $368. - ^

of the truck said that Smit^i was
the one who damaged the police vehicle,
according to police
All three of the trucks occupants
were arrested, but only Smith was retained
at the station The other two
Were questioned and later released, police
said.
Lt. Larry Stewart said that the incident
was the first one at the Center
Stage in quite some time.
