On April 28, 1 .962, the American College Health Association -
adopted the following resolution
preponderance of the scientific evidence (with scan t
counter evidence) indioates an association relationship and
suggests a causal re L ationship between cigarette smoking and
some diseases, and
Whereas, the cigarette smoking habit often is acquired now by young people either not long before they commence, ow while
they are attending college, and Whereas, colleges and universities are in a particularly
advantageous position to undertake an effective educational
effort to stop and to prevent cigarette smoking by college
students, therefore be it
Resolved that the AmerieanCollego Health Association, recognizing
the above mebtioned relationships between cigaret,te smoking and
some diseases, urges its entire membership -- both Snstltutional
and individual -- to attempt , i .n whatever ways consideredd most
suitable, to discourage cigarette smoking by college students and future alumnie
