that the work of the department was somewhat delayed because of the absence<br />
of court officiais (himself included) who were called out to the "North-West<br />
campaign." During the period Prothonotary G.H. Walker was requested to<br />
conduct crown prosecutions. Hamilton, Annual Report for 1885: 5. In the same<br />
year William Perkins, first court reporter, wrote a rnemorandum to Chief Justice<br />
Wallbridge saying that '[elvidence has been ordered but owing to the press of<br />
work in court we have not been able to get same ready, and we are<br />
consequently obliged to again ask Your Lordship to kindly make an order<br />
extending same." The rnemorandum is glued inside the front cover of Court of<br />
