95. Attorney-General C.E. Hamilton reported to Lieutenant-Govemor J .C. Aikins
that the work of the department was somewhat delayed because of the absence
of court officiais (himself included) who were called out to the "North-West
campaign." During the period Prothonotary G.H. Walker was requested to
conduct crown prosecutions. Hamilton, Annual Report for 1885: 5. In the same
year William Perkins, first court reporter, wrote a rnemorandum to Chief Justice
Wallbridge saying that '[elvidence has been ordered but owing to the press of
work in court we have not been able to get same ready, and we are
consequently obliged to again ask Your Lordship to kindly make an order
