A BRIGHT FUTURE<br />
On its 50th anniversary, FONZ will work even harder to support <strong>the</strong> Smithsonian’s <strong>National</strong> <strong>Zoo</strong> as it continues<br />
to stride toward <strong>the</strong> goal <strong>of</strong> being <strong>the</strong> world’s finest zoo by 2016. In 2008, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Zoo</strong> will complete a new facilities<br />
master plan. The enhancements and projects drawn up in this plan will require FONZ to raise funds to help carry<br />
<strong>the</strong>m to fruition. Already, we are helping develop resources needed to build Elephant Trails, refresh and renovate<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r exhibits, and support education and conservation programs. Slated for completion in 2011, Elephant Trails<br />
will provide a cutting-edge facility for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Zoo</strong>’s Asian elephants, as well as a fascinating chance for visitors to see<br />
elephant interactions in expanded, enriching indoor and outdoor settings.<br />
To support <strong>the</strong>se and o<strong>the</strong>r exciting <strong>Zoo</strong> endeavors, we will follow our own new strategic plan to make FONZ one<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> finest zoo-support organizations in <strong>the</strong> world. Our staff, board members, and volunteers will work to meet<br />
<strong>the</strong>se goals, but also must continue to rely upon <strong>the</strong> critical support provided by individuals, families, foundations,<br />
and corporations that share our commitment to <strong>the</strong> Earth’s wildlife and its future.
