Pharmaceutical Committee
The Pharmaceutical Committee maintained a busy 2004
agenda exploring the issues of access, pricing, and reimbursement
under the leadership of Daniel O’Day, General
Manager, Roche A/S, and a member of the Chamber’s Board
of Directors, who was named Committee Chairman in March.
At a session early in 2004, Pharmaceutical general managers
met to discuss key industry issues with representatives from
the U.S. Embassy. And in March, Eric Stewart, U.S.
Commerce Department Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Europe, joined the committee to discuss challenges facing
the pharmaceutical industry in Denmark.

Our Vision
We want International Pharmaceutical companies in general to be recognized
as an invaluable asset to the Danish Community and to the people of Denmark
through our investments in research and development of new and better medicines.
To achieve this, we will:
• Establish an understanding of how access to innovative pharmaceuticals
contribute to the improvement of peoples health in Denmark
• Proactively seek influence in the Danish Healthcare system and to bring
access to medicines in alignment with international best practice
• Ensure that decisions made in the future political environment will not
endanger the availability of innovative medicines vital to patients and society.
The key focus for the committee is to engage in activities to improve the overall
image of research-based companies in Denmark through public relations and
meetings with various stakeholders in the Danish healthcare system in coordination
with the Danish Pharmaceutical Industry association, LIF.
Currently, general managers of the Pharma Committee are cooperating closely
with LIF to move forward on important common industry goals.

Human Resources Committee
The Human Resources Committee’s mission is to provide a
meeting forum for its members to consider strategic issues,
facilitate the regular exchange of information, share best
practices within the area of HR management, and provide
a policy platform for key issues within Denmark and the
Nordic region.
The Human Resources Committee maintained an active
agenda in its first year under the chairmanship of Lars Wittig,
Horton International, and the efforts of its Steering Group
formed early in 2004. “We are extremely satisfied with the
active participation in the committee’s work,” Wittig says,
adding that HR issues are proving to be of “relevant strategic
interest” to the broader AmCham membership.
Participants considered whether a company should operate
without a HR department on January 15. Guest speaker Lars
Holten Petersen, Managing Director of Birch & Krogboe, a
construction company without an HR department, sparked a
spirited discussion. The committee met again at a Round
Table discussion on June 10, “From Skateboards to Neck Ties,
dealing with Generation “Why,” which addressed how
younger employees are impacting organizations, how to
connect with them, and whether they will conform to an

organization’s values. On August 24, the committee welcomed
Minister of Employment, Claus Hjort Frederiksen, to
discuss Corporate Social Responsibility.
The committee plans more such discussions in its effort to get
to the core of challenging HR issues and put the knowledge
gained to work for the organizations in Denmark.
