Nearly 400 people enjoyed AmCham’s second annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner, which is the
largest event of its kind held in Denmark. Participants described the event as festive, relaxed, and
uplifting, and the buffet as delicious as it was huge.
Sights and sounds of this authentic American Thanksgiving included stirring renditions of spirituals
by the 40-person G-Force Gospel Choir; gifts for the children; a raffle of prizes from event sponsors
including the grand prize: two roundtrip tickets to the US from Icelandair; and after-dinner
American football broadcasts.
U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Stuart Bernstein delivered President George W. Bush’s Thanksgiving
Proclamation and added some heartfelt thoughts of his own. He recognized the importance of
coming together and sharing blessings at Thanksgiving during such an “uncertain time” in world
affairs. Bernstein later personally greeted guests at each table in the ballroom at the Copenhagen
Marriott Hotel.

More than 800 people joined U.S. Ambassador to Denmark
Stuart Bernstein at Rydhave, his official residence, at the
AmCham-sponsored Independence Day celebration on July 1,
2004.
Rains briefly sent the guests under tents set up on Rydhave’s
expansive garden, but spirits were undampened. Chamber
members mingled with diplomats, executives, and government
officials of both countries. Ambassador and Mrs.
Bernstein personally greeted guests in Rydhave’s main hall,
and then welcomed the crowd to the festivities from the outdoor
stage. The grounds were decorated with flags, balloons,
and banners, and the bill of fare conjured up the best of traditional
barbeque, providing a sophisticated touch of home for

the American guests, and a flavor of Independence Day for
the Danes.
The Copenhagen Police Male Voice Choir and the U.S. Air
Forces in Europe Band offered renditions of the national
anthems in addition to spirituals and Danish and American
standards.
The event – which marked the 228th anniversary of the signing
of the U.S. Declaration of Independence – is known
among the American and wider communities in Denmark as
a fine tradition combining patriotism, good food and drink,
fellowship and networking in Rydhave’s beautiful setting.
