Øresund Committee
The Øresund Committee’s Mission is to identify the “real“
Øresund issues and address these issues with government
officials in both countries. The goal is to build awareness,
facilitate positive change, and educate other members so
that they may better prepare for doing business in a more
unified, trans-national region.
On January 28, 2004, the committee sponsored an event
at which Swedish Ambassador to Denmark Carl-Magnus
Hyltenius discussed ”Danish-Swedish Cultural
Differences...So Close Yet So Far Away.” His bottom line:
“We should keep our differences…the difference is the
interesting part, but when we join together, we become
a strong combination.”
The committee expects to continue to grow and bring
value-added events to the AmCham membership in the
upcoming year.

Jutland Committee
In a day of firsts for AmCham, 40 executives from 17 industries
including IT, shipping, furniture, banking, and executive
search gathered on March 31, 2004, in Aarhus for the
“Jutland Committee Launch,” sponsored and hosted by
TDC at its headquarters.
The event was the Chamber’s first step in its outreach effort
in Jutland, which U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Stuart
Bernstein called “the backbone of Denmark.” There are more
than 75 companies of American parentage headquartered
west of the Great Belt; many Danish companies in Jutland
with business interests in the U.S.; as well as a number of
Chamber Members with subsidiaries in Jutland.
AmCham Board members Paul Coleman, General Manager,
Biogen Idec; Eskil A. Westh, Partner, Amrop Hever; and Kevin
Fix, Senior Vice President, TDC, spoke to the networking,
information, and development value of the Chamber. Urging
the Jutland executives to tell AmCham their needs and concerns,
Coleman said, “Don’t be silent. We must hear your
voice. The Jutland initiative is at least 50% in your hands.”
Jutland Committee: Chairman, Ole Lund Andersen,
Tvilum-Scanbirk, will hold a planning meeting
in January 2005 to set programs and goals for

Executive Seminars in Analytic Chemistry

AmCham’s Analytical Instruments
Committee had another banner
year, marked by ESAC 2004, the
Committee’s fourth annual executive
seminar.
Committee members continued their efforts to build a
professional and scientific network between environmental,
food, chemical, biotech, and pharmaceutical chemists,
suppliers, and users.
ESAC 2004 was held in April at Symbion Science Park in
Copenhagen. Among ESAC 2004’s accomplishments:
shared knowledge about increasing industry productivity,
and presentations of new developments.
The industry’s most progressive vendors joined specialists for
the latest in Proteomics, Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Food,
and Environmental applications. Organizers proudly noted
that this year’s seminar attracted 165 participants – the
largest gathering in ESAC history – in three parallel sessions.

Overseas Security Advisory
Council in Denmark (OSAC)
OSAC’s mission is to provide a forum for the American private
sector in Denmark and the U.S. Embassy that will facilitate the
regular, two-way exchange of information and promote programs
designed to enhance the safety and security of the
community. The Council also shares information regarding
the general security situation, security techniques and knowhow,
and disseminates security information rapidly and accurately.
Organized in 2003, OSAC explored a number of important
and timely security issues in a series of forums, for example a
January seminar, the first of its kind here, on personal security.
Speakers Erik Nelbom, Head of Kastrup’s Staff Security; Arthur
Buchman, Psychologist, NLP World; David L. Barnes, General
Manager, Premiere Security Agency; and Peter Gibbons,
Regional Security Officer, U.S. Embassy, addressed issues
including, new EU transportation security regulations, personal
security, and regional security. Also addressed at the session:
a security survey of American companies in Denmark.
