Alternatives to Bay Street Victor Lee Victor Lee, B.A., B.Sc., LL.B., FLMI, ACS, AIRC is a member of the Manitoba Bar and has worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years. Victor manages Compliance for the group insurance divisions of Great-West Life and Canada Life, focusing on Compliance, Legislation, Tax, Privacy, and federal Industrial Security matters for their Employee Benefits, Creditor Insurance, and Direct Marketing lines of business. Victor also is an active participant in Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) committees, and was an executive of the CLHIA Compliance Section and past-chair of the CLHIA Subcommittee on Group Insurance Privacy. He also co-wrote an authorized book about Charles Schulz for the 50th Anniversary of PEANUTS that raised significant funds for charity. Jeffrey Fung Jeffrey Fung is the Founder of MyLawBid (www. mylawbid.com), an online business development tool. Jeff is also the Director of Marketing and Awesomeness of Cognition LLP where he oversees marketing initiatives and special projects. Prior to founding MyLawBid and working at Cognition, he summered, articled and practiced corporate insolvency law at McMillan LLP. He was called to the Bar in 2009 and holds a J.D. LANZADERAS was called to the bar in 2009. He is a graduate of Queen’s Faculty of Law, where he was involved with the Society of <strong>Asian</strong>s in Law, the Equity Committee, and helped to organise the Paths Less Travelled <strong>Conference</strong> for non-traditional legal careers. He is a founding member of <strong>FACL</strong>, and a former board member. Part of his work with <strong>FACL</strong> involved planning major fundraising events, writing policy statements, and helping to start the <strong>FACL</strong> Omatsu Scholarship for law students of <strong>Asian</strong> or South-<strong>Asian</strong> heritage. For two years, he practiced labour and human rights law with a Toronto-based boutique firm. He now works as staff duty counsel at criminal courts throughout the Toronto area. Nicole Suen Phillips Nicole Suen Phillips is Counsel and Project Manager – Underwriting at Stewart Title Guaranty Company in Toronto. In her role, Nicole assesses transactions exhibiting indicia of fraud, analyzes title and off-title issues for commercial and residential real estate transactions, drafts underwriting, and acts as a legal subject matter expert to other internal stakeholders. Nicole graduated with an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. She was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2002. Prior to working in-house, Nicole practised at Fraser Milner Casgrain (where she also articled) and Mills & Mills. She has been a regular speaker at firsttime homebuyers’ seminars at businesses and real estate agencies. She was a past-President of a Chapter of Business Networking International. Nicole is a Mentor for the Ivey Alumni Partnership <strong>Program</strong>, Mentor for the <strong>FACL</strong> and Peer Support Volunteer for the Ontario Lawyers’ Assistance <strong>Program</strong>.
