FACL Mentorship
Committee
One of the goals of FACL is to promote the
professional development of its members.
As such, FACL has established a Mentoring
Program, targeted towards law students
currently attending law school, those currently
in their articling year, and recent calls to the
Bar. The goal of this program is to provide
an opportunity for law students and recent calls
to talk to mentors to consider potential career
paths and to encourage lawyers and jurists to
interact with members of the legal community
by acting as mentors and role models.
Mentees can benefit from opportunities to
develop and learn about practice areas of
interest, and mentors will be able to develop
leadership and communication skills, while
participating in shared learning with their
mentee. The Mentoring Program also provides
FACL mentors with an opportunity to make a
positive impact on a new generation of lawyers
and to help their respective communities by
promoting better representation in the legal
profession.
FACL Mentorship Committee
The Mentorship Committee had a very
successful re-launch of its Program, earlier this
year in January. The Committee would like to
continue this tradition, and is looking forward to
organizing another successful mentorship event
in January, 2013.
As the FACL Mentorship Program continues
to grow, we will focus on reaching out to other
members of the legal community. Specifically,
the Committee would like to help recruit foreign
trained lawyers and provide mentoring to these
individuals. Hopefully, the FACL Mentorship
Program can assist them in their re-licensing
and accreditation process.
The formal mentoring period will run from
February to October. However, a mentoring
pair may agree to continue with their mentoring
relationship after the formal nine month period
has expired.
