PCI-Based I/O Hardware The following illustration shows the layout of a Dorado 300 cabinet. Dorado 780 and Dorado 790 PCI-Based I/O Hardware • Faster 2200 processor (about 15 percent faster than Dorado 740 and Dorado 750) • PCI-X based PCIOP-E I/O processor and Channel cards • Support for External I/O with a maximum of six IOPs in a Remote I/O Module (SIOP, CIOP, and XIOP) • Support for XPC-L connectivity through the PCIOP-E version of the XIOP Dorado 700 series I/O Configuration The I/O for the Dorado 700 Series can either be Internal with a maximum of four IOP cards for each cell (740 and 750) or External with a maximum of six IOP cards for each Remote I/O Module (780 and 790). The Internal I/O contains one to four I/O Processor units (PCIOP-E) with each PCIOP-E connecting to a PCI Expansion Rack. The PCI Expansion Rack can contain either standard channel cards or NIC cards. Each PCIOP-E requires a separate expansion rack and can have only NIC cards or storage HBA cards, but cannot have both in the same rack. The External I/O is located in the Remote I/O Module. The Remote I/O Module contains one to six I/O Processor units (PCIOP-E). The same PCI Expansion Racks connect to the external I/O processors. The Internal I/O or the Remote I/O Module does not contain PCI Channel cards. They are located in the PCI Expansion Racks. Notes: • Internal I/O DVD – The PCIOP-E card used for connection to the DVD drive can only be inserted in IOPx1 slot when viewed from the rear of the IP Cell, due to cable routing within the cell. The DVD appears as PDID=61392 (xEFD0 or 167720), CU address=0, Device address =0. • External I/O DVD – The PCIOP-E card used for connection to the DVD drive can only be inserted in IOPx5 slot when viewed from the rear of the Remote I/O Module, due to cable routing within the cell. The DVD appears as PDID=61392 (xEFD0 or 167720), CU address=0, Device address =0. Each PCIOP-E (SIOP, CIOP, and XIOP) requires two cables, a communications cable, and an I/O cable. The Remote I/O Module contains the platform logic for primary PCI buses. These PCI buses are where the PCIOP-E boards are attached. The PCIOP-E contains the I/O processor (IOP) and the 36-bit data formatter needed to perform the I/O operations. The primary PCI bus is connected to the memory side of the formatter and IOP bridges. A secondary PCI bus is attached to the channel side of the bridges. PCI cards that support the IDE DVD drive and the three inbuilt SAS drives must be installed in one of the available PCI slots to drive these interfaces. The PCIOP-E and PCI cards can be hot replaced, but only if their status is DOWN. 3839 6586–010 1–3
