PCI-Based I/O Hardware 1.3.6. PCI Host Bridge Card Style The PCI Host Bridge Card connects by cable to the expansion rack. The cable comes with the expansion rack. Note: This PCI Host Bridge Card is not supported on the Dorado 4000, 4100 and 4200. The following are the important characteristics: • 64-bit, 33-MHz card • PCI revision 2.2 • Universal add-in card Can connect to 3.3-volt or 5.0-volt slots • 2-meter cable supplied Figure 1–22. PCI Host Bridge Card Handle and Connector The following table contains the PCI Host Bridge Card style: Table 1–4. PCI Host Bridge Card Style Style Description PCI645-PHC 64 bit, 33 MGHz 1.3.7. PCI Expansion Rack Note: For the Dorado 4000 and 4100 this is the “PCI Channel Module.” Both the SIOP and the CIOP also support a PCI card known as the PCI Host Bridge Card. This card connects by cable to an expansion rack. The expansion rack has slots for a maximum of seven additional PCI cards. 1–28 3839 6586–010
PCI-Based I/O Hardware The Dorado 4000, 4100, and 4200 use a PCI-e Host I/O card to interface with the I/O Expansion Module. The SIOP is located in the I/O Expansion Module and has an inbuilt Host Bridge interface to communicate with the PCI Channel Module. The expansion rack • Supports PCI revision 2.2 • Supports 64 bits, 33 MHz • Supports 5.0-volt PCI cards or Universal add-in cards See section 1.6 for more information on the PCI Host card. The following are the styles for the expansion rack. Table 1–5. Expansion Rack Style Description PCI645-EXT Expansion rack for the Dorado 300 and 400 DOR385-EXT PCI Channel Module for the Dorado 700, 4000, 4100 and 4200 The PCI cards in the expansion rack are controlled by the IOP that controls the PCI Host Bridge Card. If the IOP card is an SIOP, all the cards in that expansion rack must be HBAs. If the controlling IOP is a CIOP, the cards in that expansion rack can be either Ethernet NICs or clock cards. Note: CIOP is not supported on Dorado 400, 4000, 4100 or 4200. 1.3.8. Dorado 700/4000/4100 Expansion Rack or PCI Channel Module (DOR385-EXT) The following can be considered for the Dorado 700 Expansion Rack or the Dorado 4000 and 4100 PCI Channel Module: • The PCI Expansion Rack or PCI Channel Module attached to the Dorado 700/4000/4100 IOP has seven slots. • Slots 1 to 4 run at 66 MHz, while slots 5 to 7 run at 100 MHz. • If there is exactly one active peripheral controller, it will realize greater bandwidth if it resides in slots 5 to 7 as opposed to slots 1 to 4. • The SBCON card (SIOP) and the Time Card run at a maximum frequency of 66 MHz. If installed in the IOP’s PCI expansion rack, the card will force the entire PCI bus associated with that slot to run at a maximum frequency of 66 MHz. Therefore, installing an SBCON card or Time Card in slot 5 will reduce the available bandwidth on slot 6 and vice versa. 3839 6586–010 1–29
