Summary:
The film is the story of young members of the ANC sentenced to
death or to life imprisonment in South Africa for their activities
to end apartheid. It is a tribute to Solomon Mahlangu, the first MK
freedom fighter to be sentenced to death, executed on April 6th,
1979. Told through the eyes of their parents, whom they left behind
when they fled the country to join the liberation movement after
the Soweto uprising, the film reflects the growing awareness of
their children's commitment and sacrifices. The film forthrightly
addresses the qestion of armed struggle in South Africa, and puts
it in perspective through interviews with student leaders and trade
unionists. The film ends with footage of the massive demonstration
at the funeral of murdered trade unionist Neil Aggett in 1982,
followed by a written overview of the comrades sentenced to death
or to life imprisonment. The film was shot secretly and anonymously
in 1982, and completed outside the country in 1983.
