Summary:
This film tells the story of the dispute between the British
multinational BTR Sarmcol in Natal, and its black employees. it not
only charts the strike at BTR, started legally in May 1985 for
union recognition of MAWU (Metal and Allied Workers Union), but
looks at the fast growing black trade unions and their problems
under apartheid. Simon Ngubane is no longer on strike. A shop
stewart of MAWU, he and a colleague both seen in this film were
murdered in December 1986 by strike-breaking vigilantes.
