Summary:<br />

The story <strong>of</strong> a young Dutch girl, Anneke who returned to South<br />

Africa where she lived as a child and interviewed black and white<br />

youngsters about their future and the struggle. She also meets ANC<br />

president Tambo in Lusaka who explainsthe struggle and the fears<br />

<strong>of</strong> the whites and a couple <strong>of</strong> youngsters in Tanzania just arrived<br />

into exile. The stories range from blunt, naive racism from her<br />

former class mates to stories <strong>of</strong> the struggle from some 'young lions'.<br />

This film is a adaptation <strong>of</strong> Mtutuzeli Matshoba's short story "A<br />

glimpse <strong>of</strong> slavery". The film follows the story <strong>of</strong> a black man ,<br />

imprisoned for striking a white man in self-defence. The convict is<br />

contracted out to a farmer in the Eastern Transvaal, whose<br />

maltreatment culminates in the convict's escape - only to be<br />

confronted by the racism <strong>of</strong> a white industrialist and apartheid's<br />

belief in the "dompass".<br />
