The National <strong>Power</strong> Transmission Corporation (NPTC) is<br />

now executing the transmission projects associated with<br />

the generation projects <strong>of</strong> NTPC, NHPC and NEEPCO.<br />

An HVDC back-to-back link between Vindhyachal and<br />

Singrauli Super Thermal <strong>Power</strong> Stations as well as the<br />

first ±500 KV HVDC bi-pole line from Rihand to Dadri<br />

have already been put into operation by NTPC. The<br />

schemes for providing a 1000 MW HVDC back-to-back<br />

tie between Chandrapur (in Western Region) and<br />

Ramagundam (in Southern Region) has been accorded<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the PIB, and preliminary work has been taken<br />

up. Besides this, a scheme for providing a 500 MW<br />

HVDC back-to-back tie between Jeypore (in Eastern<br />

Region) and Gazuwaka (in Southern Region) is under<br />

process for investment approval. Both these projects will<br />

be taken up for execution by NPTC.<br />

To facilitate the exchange <strong>of</strong> <strong>power</strong> between the States<br />

and Regions, Inter-state and Inter-regional transmission<br />

lines are being constructed under a Centrally sponsored<br />

Scheme which are introduced in 1969.<br />

During the year <strong>1991</strong>-<strong>92</strong> (upto December, 91) the 400 KV<br />

Kolaghat - Rengali inter-state link was completed.<br />

2.12 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION<br />

LOSSES<br />

The average All-India transmission & distribution losses<br />

for the year 1990-91 have been estimated at about 22.90%<br />

(provisional).<br />

The Government <strong>of</strong> India have launched a scheme for<br />

incentive payments for the reduction <strong>of</strong> transmission and<br />

distribution (T&D) losses. Under the schemes, the SEBs/<br />

Elecy. Deptts. and their Distribution Divisions which<br />

achieve a prescribed minimum reduction in T&D losses<br />

are given awards. In addition, they are given shields on<br />

the basis <strong>of</strong> their performance in reduction in energy<br />

losses and Chairmen/Heads <strong>of</strong> the concerned Elecy.<br />

Boards/Deptts. are given Gold Medals. Individuals as well<br />

as institutions or organisations, who develop scientific<br />

devices or put forward practical suggestions for reduction<br />

<strong>of</strong> T&D losses also qualify for cash awards.<br />

During the year <strong>1991</strong>-<strong>92</strong> Gold Medals and Shields for the<br />

year 1989-90 were awarded to State Elecy. Board/Elecy.<br />

Deptt. <strong>of</strong> Karnataka and Chandigarh. In addition, cash<br />

awards were given to Chandigarh, Indore distribution<br />

division <strong>of</strong> MPEB and 13 distribution divisions <strong>of</strong> Gujarat<br />

Elecy. Board. Also Shields were awarded to Valsad City<br />

distribution division <strong>of</strong> GEB and Indore distribution<br />

division <strong>of</strong> MPEB.<br />

2.13 INTERGRATED OPERATION<br />

The Regional <strong>Power</strong> Grids in the Northern, Western,<br />

Southern and Eastern Regions facilitate flow <strong>of</strong> <strong>power</strong><br />

from surplus areas to deficit areas and assist in the<br />

optimum utilisation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>power</strong> available in the country.
