With proposed capacity commissioning of 36645.7 MW
during the 8th plan period, the power generation capacity
at the end of the 8th Plan period, would be 106263.4 MW
comprising 74288.7 MW in thermal, 28764.7 in hydro
and 3210 MW in Nuclear.
3.3 TECHNO-ECONOMIC APPRAISAL
The Central Electricity Authority is responsible for the
identification of schemes for thermal as well as hydro
power stations for benefits during the plan periods. The
CEA is associated with the inspection of sites proposed
for power projects, tying up of necessary inputs like coal,
water, transport facilities, environmental clearance and
civil aviation clearance. The CEA is also responsible for
establishing the need for captive power projects and to
recommend the same whenever required.
During the current financial year i.e. 1991-92, Central
INSTITUTE (PSTI)
The Power System Training Institute, Bangalore imparts
training in various disciplines, including power systems
planning, operation, protection, communication in power
systems, computer application and power telecommunication
co-ordination. Since the inception of the Institute in
1972, 3252 engineers had been trained upto the end of
