plumbing. The new hose is fitted with a 90º swivel at the manifold end and a straight swivel at the<br />

pump end to prevent kinking.<br />

The pump plumbing features a solenoid valve at the pump discharge, a ¼” I.D. Dormont stainless<br />

steel flexline that connects the solenoid valve to the pump inlet fittings, and miscellaneous standard<br />

black metal fittings for connections. This design allows oil to bypass the pump as it drains from the<br />

oil return lines back into the filter pan when the system is turned off. Bypassing the pump expedites<br />

draining of the lines. The pump solenoid leads are connected to Pins 7 and 9 of the upper 9-pin plug<br />

assembly of the filter box.<br />

Filter Wiring Box<br />

The original-design 5-lead cable connecting the filter assembly to the filter wiring box has been<br />

replaced with a new, universal 7-lead cable to accommodate the solenoid mounted on the front<br />

manifold. The two new leads have a separate connector for attachment to the solenoid. When a<br />

filter cable is ordered for either filtration system configuration (original or redesigned), the new<br />

7-wire cable will be sent. The two extra wires and connector will not interfere with the original<br />

filtration system or its operation.<br />

Verifying Solenoid Operation<br />

Proper operation of the 24VAC manifold and pump solenoids can be verified by removing the pump<br />

motor lead from terminal 4 of the pump motor relay in the filter wiring box and then activating the<br />

oil return lever. Proper solenoid operation will be evidenced by an audible “click” or vibration of<br />

both the pump solenoid and the manifold solenoid.<br />

1.7.6 Leakage<br />

Leakage of the frypot is usually due to improperly sealed high limit thermostats, temperature probes,<br />

and drain fittings. When installed or replaced, each of these components must be sealed with<br />

Loctite ® PST56765 sealant or equivalent to prevent leakage and torqued to 180 inch-pounds. In<br />

very rare cases, a leak may develop along one of the welded edges of the frypot. When this occurs,<br />

the frypot must be replaced.<br />

If the sides and/or ends of the frypot are coated with oil, the most likely cause is spillage over the top<br />

of the frypot rather than leakage.<br />

The clamps, which hold the drain tube sections together, may loosen over time as the tubes expand<br />

and contract with heating and cooling during use. If the section of drain tube connected to the drain<br />

valve is removed for whatever reason, make sure that its grommet is in good condition and properly<br />

fitted around the nipple of the drain when it is reinstalled. Also, ensure that the drain tube runs<br />

downward from the drain along its whole length and has no low points, where oil may accumulate.<br />

1.7.7 Basket Lift Malfunctions<br />

H50 Series fryers may optionally be equipped with automatic basket lifts to ensure uniform cooking<br />

times. Basket lifts will always come in pairs, although each operates independently of the other.<br />

Depending upon the specific model, date of manufacture, and customer specifications, an H50 fryer<br />

may be equipped with a bell crank style basket lift, or a “modular” basket lift.<br />
