Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is
genetically transmitted as an AD condition
with variable expression because it may
not manifest itself until adolescence or
young adulthood. If a family history of
HCM is confirmed, it is recommended that
all first-degree relatives be examined with
echocardiography. It may be difficult,
however, to distinguish mild HCM from the
normal cardiac hypertrophy that occurs in
highly trained athletes.
