Marfan Syndrome An AD disorder with a prevalence in the general US population of 1-3 per 10000 (more common in taller athletes). Family history is a negative in approximately one-third of patients with Marfan syndrome (new mutation) A diagnosis of Marfan syndrome is based on clinical features as well as family history.
Common manifestations involve the skeletal, ophthalmologic, and cardiovascular systems. Aortic root aneurysm rupture or dissection is the most common cause of sudden death. The aortic root dilatation starts at the sinuses of Valsalva and extends distally. MVP and MR typically occur when Marfan’s syndrome manifests in infancy.
