The precondition here is the constant maintenance and updating of the master tool data and a prompt recording of the ongoing tool consumption. This is exactly where the potential lies for a combination of the two tool management systems from KROMI and ZOLLER: whereas in the standalone solution the master data and transaction data has to be entered manually to a major extent, the required information can be exchanged in future via an interface between the two systems. After all, all the data needed for the tool presetting, and therefore ultimately for optimizing the machining process in the ZOLLER system, are delivered, so to speak, free to the door by the KROMI logistics systems. That involves the master tool data, on the one hand, and all the transaction data such as stocks and consumption, on the other hand, which is directly recorded by the KROMI Tool Center KTC, the KROMI Kanban system and the KROMI eCommerce software KeC and evaluated every 10 minutes if required. Through the coupling of the two system worlds from KROMI and ZOLLER in terms of data, the user obtains a superordinate overall system with a uniform data basis. That not only means potential for rationalization through a reduction of effort required in maintaining the data, it also means that the customer obtains the possible cost savings within the scope of the two control loops in, as it were, a twin pack. Machine specialist HELLER and KROMI start first KTC pilot project It was a special pleasure for Wolf-Dietrich Pilz, the branch manager of KROMI Logistik Süd in Stuttgart, to receive the commitment for a pilot project at HELLER during the last AMB. Production Manager Markus Schwirzinger and Project Director brought the good news on the sidelines of Germany‘s largest specialist trade fair for metalworking in Stuttgart. The commitment was preceded by several preliminary talks held between the two machining specialists. The reason for the interest shown by the machine builders from Nürtingen is the enormous rise in incoming orders, which can only be mastered in the medium term by increasing production capacities. The pilot system is deployed in a manufacturing area for rotary components containing a series of lathes producing in 3-shift operation. The KROMI Tool Center KTC is the first choice for the company to supply the production area with indexable cutting inserts around the clock. KROMI is also the only manufacturer-independent provider to supply a customized electronic tool catalog along with the KTC, with whose help all products used up to now can also be issued through the KTC in future. HELLER: Our conception of tool management in this project primarily relates to the procurement and supply logistics. Due to the present order situation, we have to fully exploit our existing production capacities, i.e. produce in 3-shift operation. In such a case, the equipment has to be available 24 hours a day since we cannot afford any downtimes caused, for instance, by a lack of tools.
