Vol. I, p. 12. To <strong>John</strong> <strong>Clark</strong>, Junior. "One parcel <strong>of</strong><br />

land on which his dwelling house and barn now standeth,<br />

containing by estimation five roods, be it a little more or a<br />

little less, being part <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>John</strong> Claris, his house lot,<br />

as appeareth by a deed dated <strong>the</strong> eighth <strong>of</strong> April, in <strong>the</strong> year<br />

one thousand seven hundred and two. A l)utting eastward<br />

and northward on his fa<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>John</strong> <strong>Clark</strong>, his liouse lot, and<br />

westward on a highway and southward on James Bird, Sen.,<br />

his land."<br />

It appears, <strong>the</strong>n, that in 1657 <strong>John</strong> <strong>Clark</strong> owned 10 acres,<br />

reaching eastward to Poke brook, and westward near to <strong>the</strong><br />

site <strong>of</strong> Cephas Skinner's (formerly Manin Curtis') house,<br />

comprising about tlie same premises now owned by Charles<br />

L. Whitman, <strong>John</strong> Riley, and Mrs. Barney; that in or before<br />

1665 lie sold 2i acres from <strong>the</strong> western end to William<br />

Lewis; that in 1667 he still owned <strong>the</strong> remainder. In 1673<br />

High street was cut through <strong>the</strong> original ten-acre lot, and in<br />

1702 <strong>John</strong> <strong>Clark</strong> gave to his son <strong>John</strong> five roods <strong>of</strong> land from<br />

<strong>the</strong> southwest corner <strong>of</strong> his house lot. The house <strong>of</strong> <strong>John</strong><br />

<strong>Clark</strong>, Sen., must <strong>the</strong>n have stood between <strong>the</strong> present (1882)
