Robert Woodruff was a prominent man in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> New Britain, serving, as <strong>the</strong> <strong>record</strong>s show, on numerous committees where men <strong>of</strong> ability and sound judgment were needed. " To order <strong>the</strong> affairs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> school in this society." "To procure our rights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> loan-money that is lodged in <strong>the</strong> First Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Farmington</strong>, and <strong>the</strong> Society <strong>of</strong> Kensington." In <strong>the</strong> re- peated attempts to settle a minister he was appointed at sundry times " to apply to Mr. <strong>John</strong> Bunnell, .... to remove <strong>the</strong> objections that lay in <strong>the</strong> way <strong>of</strong> his settling in <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ministry amongst us." " To apply to <strong>the</strong> South Asso- ciation <strong>of</strong> Hartford County, for <strong>the</strong>ir advice for some suitable and orthodox candidate," etc. "To persuade said Associa- tion to advise Mr. Fowler to preach in <strong>the</strong> society as a probationer." ' To present <strong>the</strong> votes <strong>of</strong> this society to Mr. Amos Fowler, and use his influence with him to tarry among us." In <strong>the</strong> May Session <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> legislature, in 1756, he was con- firmed as " Ensign <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 13th company or trainband in <strong>the</strong> 6th Regiment in this Colony," but was usually known as Ser- geant Robert Woodruff. Their cliildren were : i. Seth, b. 174-1 ; d. Nov. 80, 1823, aged T'J. ii. Amos, b. 1745 ; m. (Oct. 27, 1768, Sarah <strong>Clark</strong>, daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph and Sarah (Curtiss) <strong>Clark</strong>.
