to Vernon, N. Y. He was a man liiglily<br />
esteemed, prominent in town affairs, and tliree times<br />
a representative <strong>of</strong> tlie town bct:wccn 1795 and 1800.<br />
He was a son <strong>of</strong> Stephen Smitli from <strong>Farmington</strong>, was<br />
born in Goshen and married Hannah Dunning. Ho<br />
left no <strong>record</strong> <strong>of</strong> his family in Winchester." The<br />
will <strong>of</strong> Mat<strong>the</strong>w^ <strong>Clark</strong> dated Aug. 2, 1790, names<br />
" my nephew Heman Smith <strong>of</strong> Winchester." The<br />
above-named nine children were all baptized in South-<br />
ington, except <strong>the</strong> first, fourth, and ninth,<br />
baptism I tind no <strong>record</strong>.<br />

1742, Elizabeth Newell, born Jan. 29, 1720-1, died Feb. 2,<br />
1791, aged 70, daughter <strong>of</strong> Capt. <strong>John</strong> and Elizabeth (H^aw-<br />
ley) Newell. They lived on <strong>the</strong> Stanley Quarter road leading<br />
from <strong>Farmington</strong> to New Britain, where Omri North lived<br />
many years and his son Lucius J. North after him, until<br />
1879. The old <strong>Clark</strong> house was moved back and is now used<br />
as a barn. Although living within <strong>the</strong> territorial limits <strong>of</strong><br />
Great Swamp (Kensington) parish, Mr. <strong>Clark</strong> with <strong>the</strong> fami-<br />
lies <strong>of</strong> Daniel Hart and Thomas Stanley 2d, attended <strong>the</strong><br />
public worship <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> old church <strong>of</strong> <strong>Farmington</strong>. After <strong>the</strong><br />
death <strong>of</strong> her husband, on <strong>the</strong> 10th <strong>of</strong> June, 1782, Elizabeth at-<br />
tended <strong>the</strong> New Britain church, and being partially deaf was<br />
allowed to stand in <strong>the</strong> pulpit. Her remains are interred be-<br />
side those <strong>of</strong> her husband in <strong>the</strong> Old Cemetery <strong>of</strong> Farm-<br />
ington.<br />
