TGF-β improve the efficiency <strong>of</strong> efferocytosis (engulfment <strong>of</strong> apoptotic<br />

cells by phagocytes followed by cell replacement to maintain homeostasis)<br />

in lung, and several lung diseases, including Asthma, Chronic<br />

Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) result<br />

from impaired efferocytosis. In order to clarify the significance <strong>of</strong><br />

each <strong>of</strong> TGF- β is<strong>of</strong>orms in lung disease <strong>of</strong> people poisoned by toxic<br />

inhalants, we examined the mRNA expression for TGF- β 1, TGF- β 2<br />

and TGF- β 3 in lung biopsies <strong>of</strong> chemical injured patients, and compared<br />

it with non-injured people. Lung samples were collected from<br />

both groups using small pinchers attached to a long cable threaded<br />

through the bronchoscope. Total RNA was extracted, cDNA libraries<br />

were constructed, and Semiquantitative RT-PCR was performed using<br />

GAPDH gene as internal control. Our result indicated that level<br />

<strong>of</strong> TGF- β 1and TGF- β 3 mRNA was significantly higher in chemical<br />
