Maud Olofsson Maud Olofsson has been Chairman of the Centre Party since March 2001, quickly establishing herself as a well-known, popular politician with a personal mission in politics. Maud is 45 years old and lives in Bygdeå, Robertsfors, in Norrbotten in the far north of Sweden. Among other things, she is a former Managing Director of the Västerbotten Agricultural Society. Her personal commitment stems to a great extent from the experience of living away from the capital city which tends to be the focal point of political debate. She is driven among other things by an awareness of the different and unfair conditions in which many people are having to live, both in the countryside and in city suburbs. Maud’s election as Party Chairman also gave an additional fillip to the party’s efforts in the cause of gender equality. As a non-socialist feminist, Maud takes a vigorous personal interest in questions concerning women’s opportunities and enterprise. Leisure, and above experience of quality of life, is essential in order to cope with the task of leading a political party. Nearness to the forest and the possibility of cooking and eating with the family are vital components for combining private life with political duties. 21
