17. Better terms for animals!
We demand that the newly established Animal Welfare
Authority be given the powers and resources to create
better ethics and rules for keeping animals. We also want
to ban fur farms, counteract long-distance carriage of
livestock and minimise the number of experiments on
animals.
18. Repair county roads and gravel roads
in sparsely populated areas
We want to make the improvement of minor roads a
priority, to guarantee that they can be used all the year
round, regardless of where you live in Sweden.
19. Invest in trains and railways
A modern and sustainable transport system requires a
huge portion of freight and passenger transport should
be transferred to railways. Passenger fares and freight
charges must be reduced. This is a key issue if we want
to lower CO 2 emissions and counteract the greenhouse
effect.
20. Introduce road charging in major cities
The queues of vehicles and the environmental problems
in our major cities cannot be solved by building new
traffic routes. With congestion charges, there will be less
crowding and more resources to improve public transport.
21. Increase the use of environmentally
preferable fuels
We require that rules and taxes promote environmentally
preferable fuels, in particular renewable ones.
22. Tougher legislation on chemicals
We require a quick phase-out of brominated flame
retardants – which for example can be found in computer
screens – less diffusion of heavy metals and a ban on azo
colours in food.
23. Lower VAT on organically produced food
What is environmentally sound and compatible with
long-term sustainable development should be cheap for
the consumers.
