4. Make it easier to study
Students with children have great difficulties in making
ends meet. Therefore, we want to reintroduce a child
supplement. As a step towards student salaries and in
order to decrease the social bias of university recruitment,
we want to go on increasing the grant portion of postsecondary
study assistance.
5. Introduce the option of a year off nationwide
The opportunity to take a year off from work means an
opportunity to do something new and different with
your life. A chance to take a year off and be reimbursed
out of unemployment insurance, provided that someone
who is unemployed stands in for you.
6. Reduce working hours to 35 per week
We want to create time for other things than paid work.
Therefore, we want to change the legislation and make
35 hours the regular working week by 2006 at the latest.
7. Action against discriminatory pay differentials
The wage level should be increased in occupations where
women predominate. Annual equality audits should be
carried out and reasons for gender-related pay
differentials should be analysed. Pay discrimination
proceedings should be transferred from the Labour Court
to common courts.
8. Counteracting ill-health in working life
Today, the state spends more on sick leave and early
retirement pensions than on health care and medical
services. We demand a more humane working life with
greater influence for the employees. More resources and
the right kind of structure are needed for the social
insurance offices, rehabilitation and training.
9. More money for health care
Investments must be made in preventive care and
alternative medicine. Psychiatric care for children and
young people needs more resources.
