The following is the Liberal Party’s
election platform for 2002
and these are our most important political aims.
You must decide!
You yourself must be able to choose where to live, your
job, child care and schools, doctor and midwife, home
help services and senior housing, decide your working
hours and so on. You know best what is good for you
and for those who are near you.
Schools
v Devote more effort to teaching all children basic
skills in reading, writing and arithmatic early on
in compulsory school.
v Introduce a national school voucher.
v Adapt the duration of compulsory schooling to
each child’s needs.
v Improve the grading system and introduce it already
from grade 6.
v Introduce national achievement tests in grade 3, for
early identification of those in need of support.
v Improve economic conditions and give encouragement
for independent schools.
v Create a more effective learning environment in
our schools.
v Strengthen the protection of victims of bullying.
v Put staff with teaching qualifications in principal
charge of pre-school activities.
v Make the teaching profession attractive by means
of better pay and career opportunities.
v In upper secondary school, abolish the individual
programme and introduce three leaving certificates.

Caring services
v Introduce a health service guarantee immediately
- no one must need to wait more than 90 days for
treatment or surgery.
