Battle of Arnhem Information Centre
The Battle of Arnhem Information Centre lies on the Freedom Trail route and
looks out on the John Frost Bridge. The Freedom Trail describes events on the
sites one visits when following the trail. Events are given a more vivid image in
the information centre.
Using photos and personal stories, the Information Centre gives an idea of
what life was like for citizens and soldiers living and fighting in Arnhem in
1944. Each wall in the centre has its own ‘character’:the north side gives the
Arnhemmers’ version of events, the west side the British version, the south
side the Polish version and the east side the German version, all by means of
personal accounts. A video presentation shows the development of the battle.
The Battle of Arnhem Information Centre is part of the Airborne Museum
“Hartenstein” in Oosterbeek, which recounts the day-to-day battle for
Arnhem, from the airborne landings, the push to the Rhine Bridge, the heavy
fighting in Arnhem and Oosterbeek, to the withdrawal.
