Age: 64<br />
Edward Wilburn suffered a fatal heart attack<br />
while responding to <strong>the</strong> station for a<br />
call. A 33-year veteran, he was president<br />
of <strong>the</strong> department at <strong>the</strong> time<br />
of his death and had previously<br />
served as chief. Members of<br />
his department relied on his<br />
experience and often went<br />
to him for advice.<br />
He was <strong>the</strong> owner-operator<br />
of Edward D. Wilburn<br />
General Contractor, Inc.<br />
A member of <strong>the</strong> Mountain<br />
Top Home Builders<br />
Association, he worked<br />
to help establish building<br />
codes in Garrett County.<br />
He was one of several<br />
contractors across <strong>the</strong> state<br />
of Maryland who crafted<br />
a portion of <strong>the</strong> acorn that sits atop <strong>the</strong><br />
Maryland Statehouse in Annapolis.<br />
A lifelong member of Hoyes United<br />
Methodist Church, he held<br />
many offices including Sunday<br />
School Superintendent, Trustee<br />
Chairman, and Board<br />
Chairman. He was also a<br />
member of <strong>the</strong> Garrett<br />
County Farm Bureau and<br />
was an avid hunter.<br />
He was survived by his<br />
wife, Betty; his daughter,<br />
Kimberly Becker, and her<br />
husband, Gregory; his<br />
son, Steven Wilburn; his<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>r, James Wilburn;<br />
and two grandchildren,<br />
Tonya and David Becker.<br />
