Arnie (Arnold) W. Wolff died August 13,<br />

2006, when a floor collapsed as he<br />

fought a structure fire. He was <strong>the</strong><br />

first firefighter to die in <strong>the</strong> line<br />

of duty in Green Bay. Arnie was<br />

born July 14, 1951, in Portage,<br />

Wisconsin. He graduated<br />

from Poynette High School<br />

in 1969 and from <strong>the</strong><br />

University of Wisconsin-<br />

Madison in 1975, with a<br />

degree in agricultural/<br />

business management.<br />

He first worked as an<br />

assistant co-op manager<br />

in Chilton, Wisconsin,<br />

and <strong>the</strong>n as manager in<br />

Mishicot at <strong>the</strong> Cenex<br />

Cooperative. He met and<br />

later married <strong>the</strong> former<br />

Mary Jerabek on August 18,<br />

1979, at Sacred Heart Catholic<br />

Church in Minitowoc.<br />

While living in Mishicot, Arnie<br />

started volunteering with <strong>the</strong> Mishicot<br />

Ambulance Service. After leaving <strong>the</strong> coop<br />

business, he started working for <strong>the</strong> former<br />

M&T Ambulance, Manitowoc, as an EMT-ID. On<br />

January 26, 1989, Arnie began working for <strong>the</strong> City<br />

of Green Bay as a firefighter/paramedic. He was<br />

just recently promoted to lieutenant and was very<br />

involved in teaching future paramedics.<br />

Arnie became very involved with soccer<br />

once his children started playing <strong>the</strong><br />

game. He coached several recreational<br />

teams, helped found and<br />

managed <strong>the</strong> first Green Bay<br />

Lightning U-11 girls’ select<br />

soccer team and, at <strong>the</strong> time<br />

of his death, had coached<br />

his daughter’s select soccer<br />

team in Allouez. Arnie<br />

was certified as a master<br />

soccer referee official.<br />

Arnie was a true handyman,<br />

having built his<br />

family’s last two homes.<br />

His last project was a<br />

pond in <strong>the</strong> backyard.<br />

He had an avid passion to<br />

read and was always at his<br />

children’s activities. Family<br />

was always his first priority.<br />

Survivors include his wife, Mary;<br />

three children, Eric, Ryan, and<br />

Kathryn; his parents, Marlene and<br />

Harold Wolff; bro<strong>the</strong>rs, Jeffrey, Paul, and<br />

Rick; parents-in-law, Clarence and Kathryn Jerabek;<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>r-in-law, Mark Jerabek; and his bro<strong>the</strong>rs and<br />

sisters of <strong>the</strong> Green Bay Fire Department.<br />

We will always remember our hero, Arnie!!
