Age: 57<br />

Battalion Chief Robert Schnibbe collapsed<br />

while directing operations at a structure<br />

fire.<br />

Bob served as a Westchester County<br />

Battalion Chief for four years.<br />

His duties included coordinating<br />

mutual aid operations and<br />

organizing drills and training<br />

activities for six neighboring<br />

villages. He was a volunteer<br />

member of Protection Engine<br />

Company #1, Hastings-on-<br />

Hudson, New York, from<br />

1967-2006, including 24<br />

years as Chief Officer and six<br />

years as company line officer.<br />

Chief Schnibbe was one<br />

of <strong>the</strong> most widely known<br />

and respected fire officials<br />

in Westchester County and<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> state.<br />

He was a life member of <strong>the</strong><br />

Westchester County Volunteer<br />

Firefighters’ Association, Hudson<br />

Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association,<br />

NYS Association of Fire Chiefs, International<br />

Association of Fire Chiefs, Firemen’s Association<br />

of <strong>the</strong> State of New York, and Westchester County<br />

Association of Fire Chiefs. He also served as president<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Westchester County Parade Judges Association.<br />

He was a member of <strong>the</strong> Hudson Valley Blue Vest<br />

Association, Hastings-on-Hudson Volunteer Ambulance<br />

Corps, Village of Hastings-on-Hudson Safety Council,<br />

and Hastings Exempts and Benevolent Association.<br />

Active with community service, he was involved with<br />

<strong>the</strong> Quad Village Rotary Club, South Side Athletic Club,<br />

Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and <strong>the</strong> Holy Name<br />

Society of St. Mat<strong>the</strong>w’s Roman Catholic<br />

Church. He worked as an independent<br />

insurance agent for 35 years.<br />

Bob was <strong>the</strong> heart and soul of <strong>the</strong><br />

Hastings-on-Hudson Volunteer<br />

Fire Department. His fellow<br />

firefighters referred to him as<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir “go-to guy.” If anything<br />

was ever needed within <strong>the</strong><br />

departments in his battalion,<br />

Bob was <strong>the</strong>re. He strived to<br />

make <strong>the</strong> department one<br />

of <strong>the</strong> best. His extensive<br />

knowledge of firefighting<br />

and his dedication made<br />

him a leader, supporter, and<br />

teacher within <strong>the</strong> county<br />

and state. He always made<br />

things happen.<br />

Bob was always smiling,<br />

enjoyed life, and lived every day<br />

to his fullest. He enjoyed having<br />

fun and sharing his infinite number<br />

of stories with friends and family. Bob<br />

had a big and generous heart. He always<br />

put o<strong>the</strong>rs before himself. If you needed help,<br />

support, comfort, or a laugh, you thought of Bob<br />

Schnibbe. Bob was a very humble man and never<br />

wanted to be fussed over. He was passionate not only<br />

about <strong>the</strong> fire department, but also about <strong>the</strong> people<br />

in his personal life. He was a very dedicated fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

and a loving husband. It was only in his passing that<br />

we learned all of <strong>the</strong> things he had done and how<br />

proud he was to be a fa<strong>the</strong>r, husband, and volunteer<br />

firefighter. Bob Schnibbe will be in our hearts and<br />

memories ALWAYS.
