Embedded <strong>SQL</strong><br />

In OpenEdge Release 10, the E<strong>SQL</strong> interface is being deprecated. It is provided to help<br />

OpenEdge customers transition to the use of other interfaces. For the long term, you should use<br />

ODBC or JDBC to access <strong>SQL</strong> data. These newer interfaces offer better performance and access<br />

by many development and reporting tools, as described in the following sections:<br />

• E<strong>SQL</strong> elements and statements<br />

• Compliance with industry standards<br />

This section provides detailed information on OpenEdge <strong>SQL</strong> statements. A description for<br />

each statement provides the following information:<br />

• Definition of the statement<br />

• Syntax of the statement’s proper usage<br />

• A code sample that shows how the statement works<br />

• Any associated notes<br />

• Authorization required in order to use the statement<br />

• Related statements
