5.5.4. Execution of Environment and Business <strong>Practice</strong>s Assessments<br />

5.5.4.1. Document review: The auditor should have reviewed the completed <strong>Sedex</strong> SAQ prior to the audit and<br />

should use the assessment process to check that the site’s policies and procedures agree with the<br />

SAQ. Any discrepancies should be noted on the <strong>Audit</strong> report.<br />

5.5.4.2. Permits and licenses: These should be checked against the legal requirements and details should be<br />

noted on the report. This should also include a review of any relevant prosecutions or legal actions<br />

against the site for environmental issues.<br />

5.5.4.3. Natural Resources Usage: Where possible usage and disposal of natural resources should be<br />

quantified in the audit report, some examples are volumes of water used, recycled, discharged - See<br />

section 10B4 in Appendix A1 <strong>Guidance</strong> by Clause for details and the <strong>SMETA</strong> audit report.<br />

5.5.4.4. Management interview: The auditor checks documentary evidence and actual practices by interviewing<br />

relevant personnel. As a minimum this should include the individual (s) identified by the site as the<br />

person (s) responsible for Environmental and Business <strong>Practice</strong>s performance.<br />

5.5.4.5. Worker Interview The auditor seeks to verify practices in areas of legal compliance such as for<br />

Environment, contents of waste water discharge. Discussion with employees responsible for checking<br />

these contents can be evidence of procedures correctly implemented. For Business <strong>Practice</strong>s<br />

interviews should be with departments where Business <strong>Practice</strong>s policies are most appropriate e.g.<br />

sales, purchasing, service control, and logistics departments.<br />

5.5.4.6 As a minimum the auditor should interview at least one worker from each of the areas of Environment<br />

and Business <strong>Practice</strong>s.<br />

Note: Where policies do not exist an auditor should use the assessment process as an opportunity to raise<br />

awareness, especially on Business <strong>Practice</strong>s issues, and to assist the AAG have a suggested framework for<br />

content, (See section: 10C of Appendix A1 <strong>Guidance</strong> by Clause).<br />
