ACHIEVEMENTS Industry, business development and marketing √ Council approves the Economic Development Strategy 2011-2015 for implementation. √ Council launches the Economic Development Newsletter to local businesses and stakeholders. √ Murray Sound Residential Estate opens in Cohuna. √ New factories completed in Tate Drive industrial estate, Kerang. √ Planning permit for Poultry Quarantine facility is extended. TOURISM √ Gannawarra Shire Accommodation Data for 2010 was collated from accommodation providers in the Shire and this information has provided vital tourism and accommodation information for the Shire (see Figure 5). √ Council endorses the establishment of the Murray Regional Tourism Board, signs a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the partnership between local government, Tourism Victoria and Tourism NSW in relation to the operation of the new Board and commits to contributing for three years commencing in 2010/2011. √ The $1.2 million Gateway to Gannawarra Education, Cultural and Heritage Centre project which will provide an exciting new service for visitors and residents is underway and on schedule. √ Council supports the proposal for Bicycle Victoria to allow the Great Victorian Bike Ride to proceed through the Gannawarra Shire in November 2011. √ Council launches a tourism website offering a new online opportunity for up-to-date information on the exciting tourism opportunities on offer in the Gannawarra region. √ Council launches its first Gannawarra Visitor Guide to inform visitors to the area of the many attractions, events and accommodation options across the Shire.
