The Foreign Policy Association continues its
sponsorship of the Academic WorldQuest quiz
competition, a national initiative of the World
Affairs Council of America (WACA). Last year
FPA introduced an annual local competition in
New York City.
WorldQuest is a team competition that
challenges its players on their knowledge of international
affairs, geography, culture, and history.
FPA’s WorldQuest New York is a way for
New York area students to expand and evaluate
their knowledge of world affairs through intramural
competition. The team from the winning
school earns a spot as FPA’s representative
to the annual national Academic WorldQuest
competition in Washington, D.C.

FPA’s sponsorship of Academic World-
Quest helps to promote local use of the Great
USA
Decisions briefing book among World Affairs
Councils chapters nationwide. WACA bases
one of the ten Academic WorldQuest competition
rounds on Great Decisions topics, and local
World Affairs Councils use Great Decisions to
prepare their teams for local competitions.

FPA hosted its first WorldQuest competition
in New York in February 2007 at Stuyve-
HudsonBay
sant High School in Lower Manhattan. FPA
Director Jim Walsh served as moderator. The
Herricks High School team from New Hyde
Park, New York, won the competition and went
on to place seventh among the 44 teams at the
national competition.
