OCHS loses two students<br />
Ronald Moretti<br />
Ron Moretti Jr. was quite a per-<br />
. The many people he touched<br />
with his quiet ways <strong>and</strong> friendly<br />
personality will truly miss him.<br />
As a member of the foo tball team<br />
nd catcher for the baseball team, he<br />
ihowed talent <strong>and</strong> relentless effort in<br />
Bverythinghe aitempted.<br />
I . Ron will be remembered for his<br />
tfun-loving sense of humor. He could<br />
always make everyone laugh; even<br />
through the tough times. If Ron were<br />
with us today, he'd want to smile <strong>and</strong><br />
laugh <strong>and</strong> for us to do the same.<br />
Our loss of such a great person<br />
ind friend will be easier to cope with<br />
jecause of his influence on us.<br />
Although it's tough for everyone<br />
now, Ron will always be with us in<br />
>ur thoughts for the rest of our lives.<br />

m is always devastating. It is impossible<br />
to get through a situation of<br />
this nature without a tremendous<br />
amount of grief, It seems that when<br />
young people die, it is especially difficult<br />
to deal with. You're always left<br />
asking, "Why? Why them, <strong>and</strong> why<br />
so young?" To these questions there<br />
are no logical answers right now.<br />
I believe that if Cheryl <strong>and</strong> Ron<br />
could speak to us now, they would<br />
tell us to be strong, be happy, always<br />
be there for one another, <strong>and</strong> live every<br />
day to the fullest. I also believe<br />
they would thank us for the overwhelming<br />
amount of love that has<br />
been shown for them in the past few<br />
days.<br />
Asdifficultas times may become,<br />
remember ihey are in a better place<br />
<strong>and</strong> would not want to see us sad. So<br />
the message we bend back to them<br />
should be one of love, of strength, <strong>and</strong><br />
of thanks for allowing us to be a part<br />
of their lives for the short time they<br />
were here.<br />
No one can foresee an accident.<br />
Hopefully the effects of this one will<br />
prevent others. It's a shame it takes a<br />
iradgedy to open people's eyes to what<br />
has always been right there before<br />
them.<br />

Bird Brain's message to students<br />
Dean Sehoenwald, better known<br />
as "Bird Brain" the Eagles' mascot,<br />
came to Ocean Qty High on October<br />
25. Bird Brain's message to the<br />
students? Do not use drugs, steroids,<br />
or alcohol, <strong>and</strong> especially not to drink<br />
<strong>and</strong> drive. Ironically, students can not<br />
be protected from people who have<br />
not heard the message <strong>and</strong> that is why<br />
two very special people are not here<br />
today.<br />
Dean mentioned the "Contract of<br />
Life," a contract students sign with<br />
their parents to allow the students to<br />
ask for a ride at any time if they were<br />
drinking <strong>and</strong> can't get a ride home.<br />
This also protects the students from<br />
their parents scolding or punishing<br />
them until the next morning.<br />

Reilly wins surfing<br />
championship<br />
Katie Reilly, a senior at Ocean<br />
City High School, recently placed §eeond<br />
in the New Jersey High School<br />
Surfing Championships at Brant<br />
Beach, in Long Beach Isl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
The championships, held on November<br />
3, had some of the top surfers<br />
in New Jersey compehng for individual<br />
<strong>and</strong> team titles. Reilly competed<br />
in the women's division where<br />
the top four women high school surfers<br />
qualified to battle it out in a 20mlnute<br />
final.<br />
Reilly, defending champion, has<br />
had other impressive achievements<br />
in <strong>and</strong> out of the water.<br />

The amazing thing about both of<br />
her achievements is that they both<br />
were made in the same season. While<br />
on the OC tennis team, she played as<br />
number two seed <strong>and</strong> helped the team<br />

Township, she took a position at the<br />

budget cuts, she found herself without<br />
a job after the 1990.1991 school<br />
year.<br />
When she heard of the opening at<br />
OCHS, she decided to apply. She<br />
says, "The kids here are really nice."<br />
