Lela J. THRUSH, 91, formerly of 314 W. 11th St., Rochester, died at 7:22 p.m. Monday
at Peabody Retirement Home, North Manchester, where she had lived since 1982.
She was born Jan. 18, 1900 in Pulaski County to Robert M. and Sarah MURRAY
THOMAS. She moved from Grass Creek to Rochester in 1933. On Dec. 6, 1919 in Grass Creek
she married Lotus T. THRUSH, who died April 2, 1973. She was a graduate of Grass Creek High
School, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty JENKINS, Rochester, and Shirley ANDERSON,
Logansport; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death were two daughters, Vivian SCHEID and Mary [ELLITHORP]; a sister, and
two brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester,
with the Rev. Jack HARTMAN officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday. The Eastern Star will
conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Paul E. Hammond
Paul E. HAMMOND, 70, of 14453 Redwood Road, Culver, died at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday at
Okeechobee, Fla.
He was born July 31, 1920 in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Arthur and Sylvia SHARP
HAMMOND. He moved from Fulton to Culver in 1946. On July 8, 1944 in South Bend he
married Eilene SNOKE, who survives. He retired in 1982 from the McCord Corporation in
Plymouth after 37 years of service. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War
II in Africa and Italy. He was a member and past commander of the Plymouth VFW Post, past
president of the Plymouth Eagles Lodge, and a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post and
the Pyramid’s 98th Bomb Group Veterans Association.
Surviving with his wife are a sister, Alberta WATSON, Three Rivers, Mich.; two
brothers, Glen [HAMMOND], Milan, Mich., and Carl [HAMMOND], Norfolk, Va., and an aunt,
Hazel ANDERSON, Argos.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, Plymouth, with the Rev.
Edwin McCLURE officiating. Military rites will be conductd by the VFW. Burial will be in Oak
Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Plymouth,
1100 N. Michigan St. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Plymouth,
or the Hospice of Okeechobee, Fla.
