Certified Nurse Assistant<br />

(CNA)<br />

Prerequisite: High School diploma or GED,<br />

background check, fingerprinting and proof<br />

of the following immunizations: Mantoux<br />

(PPD2-step process).<br />

Nurse assistants are in demand and serve<br />

as healthcare workers in a variety of settings,<br />

such as hospitals, home care, nursing homes,<br />

or assisted living facilities. Nurse assistants<br />

aid in the physical, psychosocial, social, and<br />

spiritual needs of clients. Students will learn<br />

basic care skills, vital signs monitoring,<br />

infection control, transferring and feeding<br />

of clients, communications skills, body<br />

mechanics, bed making, Heimlich maneuver,<br />

restorative care, and care of the dying client.<br />

This state-approved program includes<br />

50 hours of classroom content with 40 hours<br />

of clinical practicum and prepares students<br />

to take the licensing examination.<br />

EKG<br />

This course will give the student the ability<br />

to perform EKGs in the hospital or the<br />

doctor’s office. Students will learn: the<br />

difference between normal and abnormal<br />

dysrhythmias; the cardiac conduction<br />

system; and the procedure for conducting<br />

the EKG analysis, including patient<br />

preparation.<br />

Introduction to Phlebotomy<br />

Satisfactory completion of this course<br />

prepares the student for an entry level<br />

position in the field of phlebotomy<br />

(collecting blood specimens.) Students will<br />

learn OSHA regulations, safety measures,<br />

and capillary and venipuncture techniques.<br />

Appropriate professional communication<br />

techniques and proper handling and<br />

transportation of specimens will be<br />

emphasized. Course components include<br />

lecture, lab practice and hands-on skills.<br />

Satisfactory completion of this course will<br />

require students to pass a written exam<br />

and to successfully demonstrate their skills.<br />

NOTE: This class does not provide a<br />

clinical component at this time.<br />

Certificate in Gerontology<br />

The Certificate in Gerontology is designed<br />

to enhance the knowledge and skills of<br />

individuals who work with older adults by<br />

providing an educational experience that is<br />

multidisciplinary in nature. The Certificate<br />

of Gerontology consists of a total of eight<br />

courses: four core courses and four elective<br />

courses. Accreditation: ALLEGRA Learning<br />

Solutions, LLC is accredited as a provider<br />

of continuing education in nursing by the<br />

American Nurses Credentialing Center’s<br />

Commission on Accreditation.<br />
