irthday. Otto Arthur was born in the depth <strong>of</strong> a Wisconsin winter, Jan. 17, 1903. He was christened as<br />

springtime was about to arrive, Mar. 15, 1903. He was confirmed in the Christian faith, May 20, 1917.<br />

The youngest son, Herold Gilbert, was born May 28, 1905, and was christened in the heat <strong>of</strong> the<br />

summer, July 23, 1905. When he was twelve years old, he was also confirmed at Immanuel. The baby <strong>of</strong><br />

the family and second daughter, Leona Ruth, was born after the harvest, Sept. 28, 1911. Apr. 2, 1926,<br />

she, like all <strong>of</strong> her siblings confessed her belief in God during a confirmation ceremony. Feb. 1, 1932,<br />

August Karl Franz died and was buried in a hand dug grave, just East <strong>of</strong> the Church where he'd sung<br />

many well-known hymns. Nearly seven years later, Jan. 21, 1939, Alwina was laid to rest beside him.<br />

Obituary <strong>of</strong> August K. Franz<br />

August K. Franz, oldest son <strong>of</strong> August and Louise Franz was born October 28th, 1861 in the Town <strong>of</strong><br />

Herman, Sheboygan <strong>County</strong>, Wisconsin. He spent his childhood and early youth in and about the Town<br />

<strong>of</strong> Herman. In 1881 Mr. Franz came to <strong>Clark</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Two years later in the spring <strong>of</strong> 1883, he went<br />

back to that town returning again to <strong>Clark</strong> <strong>County</strong> in the fall <strong>of</strong> that year and making his home here<br />

since.<br />

On January 8, 1891, he was united in marriage with Alvina Noah. They settled on their present farm<br />

where he resided until death. Beside farming he did carpenter work until 1905. Mr. Franz has been<br />

ailing for about a year and a half and passed away at his home on Monday afternoon, February 1, 1932.<br />

He leaves to morn his death, his widow, five sons, Fred, Adolph, Otto and Harold <strong>of</strong> Sidney, Montana;<br />

Calvin <strong>of</strong> the Town <strong>of</strong> Longwood and two daughters, Alma (Mrs. Otto Fravert), Town <strong>of</strong> Warner and<br />

Leona at home and five grand children. Besides these he leaves to mourn two brothers and two sisters,<br />

William, Henry, Mrs. Frank Able, Greenwood, Wis. and Mrs. John Kppenhan <strong>of</strong> Appleton. One sister<br />

preceded him in death.<br />

Mr. Franz lived in this community for over 50 years. He was well known, enjoying a large circle <strong>of</strong><br />

friends and acquaintences.<br />

Funeral services were held from the West Side Immanuel Reformed church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday<br />

afternoon, Rev P. Franzmeier <strong>of</strong>ficating. The body was laid to rest in the West Side Cemetery.<br />

Those from away who were here for the funeral were Adolph Franz <strong>of</strong> Sidney, Montana; Mr. and Mrs.<br />

Simon Noah and two sons, <strong>of</strong> Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. John Kippenhan <strong>of</strong> Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Philip<br />

Mattes <strong>of</strong> Thorp and Carl and Otto Arnhoelder <strong>of</strong> Sheboygan. (Copied from Newspaper clipping from<br />

Mrs. Alvina (Noah) Franz was born on December 10, 1871 in Town <strong>of</strong> Herman, Sheboygan <strong>County</strong>,<br />

Wisconsin. At the age <strong>of</strong> two years she came with her parents to live in <strong>Clark</strong> <strong>County</strong>. She became a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the Immanuel Reformed Church by the rite <strong>of</strong> confirmation on April 18, 1896.<br />
