A deal has been closed by Edward Abeling wherein the Frank Saxton 400 acre<br />

ranch in the Spring Creek section was sold to Haltenh<strong>of</strong> and Franz (Ted). The<br />

purchasers are Montana cattlemen from near Miles City and have spent the past<br />

eighteen months seeing a desireable location in various parts <strong>of</strong> Idaho, Oregon and<br />

Washington.<br />

The new owners took possession <strong>of</strong> the ranch last Satuday. They intend to stock it<br />

with purebred cattle and sheep for which the farm is particularly well adapted. this<br />

ranch is generally considered the best place in that locality. This is the biggest cash<br />

deal made in the Klickitat Valley for some time.<br />

Franz, a son-ion-law <strong>of</strong> Halltenh<strong>of</strong> has looked at farms all over Oregon and in<br />

various parts <strong>of</strong> Wshington. He said: "After viewing all <strong>of</strong> the farm territory in<br />

Oregon and Washingotn, I felt that Goldendale and Vicity held the greatest<br />

opportunity for development."<br />

and Mrs. Henry Franz <strong>of</strong> the West Side.<br />

Theodore H. Franz Obituary (1974)<br />

Greenwood - Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday (March 18) at the Fuiten<br />

Mortuary Chapel in Hillsboro, Ore. for Theodore H. Franz, 68, <strong>of</strong> Aloha, Ore.<br />

formerly <strong>of</strong> Greenwood, who died Thursday, Marcxh 14, at his home. Death was<br />

attributed to a heart condition.<br />

Officiating at the Monday service was the Rev. Eugene Sabin, Pastor <strong>of</strong> the Cedar<br />

Hills Christian Church. Mr. Franz was a native <strong>of</strong> Greenwood, where he was born<br />

June 12, 1905. He spent all <strong>of</strong> his early life and received his education at<br />

Greenwood and as a young man went to Montana.<br />

He was married to the former Jane Halstenh<strong>of</strong>f in Montana, and they later lived at<br />

Goldendale, Wash., before moving to Oregon in 1933. They first lived at<br />

McMinnville, Ore., for a number <strong>of</strong> years and then since 1953 at Aloha.<br />

Mr. Franz was a retired farmer and nurseryman and had been working part time at<br />

the Daybreak Nursery at Cornelius, Ore. Survivors include his wife; three brothers,<br />

Oscar Franz, Land O'Lakes, Edwin Franz, North Dakota, and Leondo Franz,<br />

Wisconsi Rapids; and five sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Martha) Schwarze, Mrs. Henry<br />

(Minne) Laube and Mrs. Selma Churkey, all <strong>of</strong> Owen, and Mrs. Harold (Arvilla)<br />

Horn and Mrs. Mike (Meta) Bolf, both <strong>of</strong> Greenwood.<br />
